verses for 2013

"Keep your heart with all diligence
for out of it spring the issues of life."
Proverbs 4:23

Keeping my heart, which is my core, my focus,
my all consuming desire in life…following and serving my Lord Jesus Christ.
When my eyes are consistently fixed on Him I have peace,
endurance, hope, and strength for whatever comes my way.

~

"Abide in Me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself,
unless it abides in the vine."
John 15:4

abide- live in, act in accordance with, dwell

May this be true of me.

To Never Tire of the Gospel

How can you truly be a believer and tire of the Gospel?
How can those precious words not pierce you to the very depths of your soul?

"For when we were still 1without strength, in due time 2Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that 3while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be 4saved from wrath through Him. For if when 5we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation."

                                                                                    Romans 5:6-11

1. without strength- through no power of our own could we or can we overcome sin
2. Christ died for the ungodly- again, no holiness or godliness is in us!
3. while we were still sinners Christ died for us- Christ's death was required. Our sin was/is so great and nothing we do by our own merit could ever be good enough. By our very nature we transgressed the law of the one true Holy God. And yet that one true Holy God was willing to send His only Son to die in our place…That's love folks, that is mega off the charts love!
4. saved from wrath through Him- the Gospel has become so watered down that the wrath of God is not preached. Yes, the fact that God bore our sins is wonderful indeed! But the wrath? the punishment? that we deserved? was poured out onto the spotless perfect Son of God? This is beyond comprehension.
5. we were enemies- contrary to popular belief, we are not born children of God, a just and holy God cannot, will not, and should not love us in our sin.

It is easy for me to spend time dwelling on my sin, to see all the spots and wrinkles. The truth is that dwelling on my sin will get me nowhere. Yes, it is good that we acknowledge our sin, the Holy Spirit reveals it, but I don't have to stay there. By the consistent reminder of the Gospel, I know where to take those sins. To the foot of the cross! I cannot bear them, but Christ can and will!

Go back to the Gospel again and again…you will never tire of it.
